To celebrate International Women’s Day 2021, Donegal Women in Business Network have partnered with a number of prominent local and global colleagues in the enterprise space.

Our event, Women Embracing Global Change Together, in association with Local Enterprise Office Donegal, Letterkenny Institute of Technology, Enterprise North West, and European Women Association, introduces you to women embracing changes in this turbulent time and extending the hand of friendship and collaboration, to learn and grow during this time.

Covering topics such as:

• Covid-19

• Brexit

• Establishing a Work from Home – Life Balance

• Economic Circumstances

• Remaining Optimistic & Resilient

Our line-up for the day includes keynote speakers and panel guests from the various partner bodies. Yousra Kabir, Research Student from Letterkenny Institute of Technology will also present her findings on her research into the value of professional networks for growth in business.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Caroline Faulkner

Senior Vice President, Prudential Financial

Caroline Faulkner is a Senior Vice President for Prudential Financial, based in New Jersey USA. Her responsibilities include running and transforming customer service for all their US based business units. She manages a budget of over $1billion dollars annually and runs a global team of over 6000 personnel. Prior to that, Caroline was the Managing Director for Pramerica Ireland based in Letterkenny. A proud native of Donegal Town, Caroline started her career as a software engineer in Abbott Donegal, advancing to leading their technology function over the course of her 12 years there. Caroline is passionate about exceeding customer expectations, maximising staff engagement and streamlining business processes. She has 2 sons, a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter. She loves to spend a lot of time at home and is currently enjoying being back in Donegal for the duration of the pandemic.

Yulia Stark

President, European Women Association

Ex-investment banker, International TEDx speaker, author and a passionate serial entrepreneur, Yulia is Founder of FAB Academy – business academy for women; President of European Women Association; Senator for Belgium at World Business Angel Investment Forum WBAF, and Executive Board Member Wintrade Global, connecting world leaders and executives, creating a positive impact worldwide. Additionally, Yulia works with big brands such as Google; Microsoft; Facebook; Deloitte; Cargill, and many more. Yulia is passionate about neuroscience, mindfulness, travel and entrepreneurship and also runs transformational well-being retreats in Europe and the paradise of Bali, where a holistic approach is the basis for a sustainable growth.

Carol Banahan

Carol’s Stock Market

Born in Dublin, Carol moved to Canada where she gained a successful career in the Stock Market. To counteract the stress of the week spent on the trading floor, Carol devoted her weekends to cooking. On return to Ireland, she couldn’t find any producers of the natural stock products she had been used to in Vancouver and so she started to make her own and set up Carol’s Stock Market. Going from strength to strength, the business now sells online and direct to stockists in NI, ROI and Mainland UK. Carol is a great advocate for females in enterprise and she is passionate about sharing her story, the good and the bad, and to do her bit to support others who would like to be their own boss.

Martina Rafferty

General Manager, Waterfront Hotel Dungloe, Co. Donegal

Martina has over 20 years of hospitality experience working with various global and domestic organisations such as Hilton Hotels, Ashford Castle and the Merrion – members of the renowned leading hotels of the world. She specifically has focus on streamlining operations to produce financially successful hotel and restaurant operations within the business. Martina fully understands the importance of profit and offers a strong background in revenue and marketing management. In addition, Martina is known for her leadership and believes the hotel is only as good as her 80-plus dedicated employees. The Waterfront is currently developing its portfolio allowing opportunity for further growth and employment. Coming soon is the opening of Inis Fitness followed by Inis Spa & Wellness. The Waterfront Hotel has also invested in a second boutique property and plans are underway for development. RTEÉ are filming this project alongside Martina and her team. Martina enjoys the outdoors, spending valued time with her friends and family and is a strong believer in the power of positivity.

Enterprise North West is a non-profit organisation established in 1989 and has become a key player in economic and enterprise development in the North West of Ireland. Based in Derry, Enterprise Northwest provides business development, mentoring and consultancy services to the public, private and voluntary sector. The company is currently delivering a variety of programmes ranging from developing entrepreneurship to social and regional development. The organisation has extensive experience in providing support services for those seeking to start their own business and in developing/diversifying existing business through training, 1:1 support, access to funding and networking.

European Women Association

European Women Association is located in Belgium and is a global platform that empowers female founders by establishing a strong and safe foundation for women-led projects and initiatives. Through the platform, women worldwide have an increased access to funding, business networks and education.
